The Seniors Section at Pitlochry Golf Club was first established in 2013 and now has over 100 members. Our Section is open to all paid up Pitlochry Golf Club members aged 55 and over.
Our primary objective is to offer our registered members an enjoyable eclectic mix of serious and fun golf in a friendly and sociable environment. We all enjoy playing this great game but the fun and banter is very much an important part of our weekly get-togethers.
During the summer season, we play on Mondays from 08.30 and, with effect from May 2024, entry for each competition is made by signing into the Club V1 Members Hub through the App or through the Webpage. Entries open approximately 2 weeks in advance of each competition. A draw is usually produced on the Saturday or the Sunday preceding the Monday competition. Details of the format will be provided through the App or Webpage or by the Competition Organiser. A full Fixture List can be viewed on the website and it will also be posted on the Seniors Notice Board.
Most of our competitions are played from Yellow Tees, with some Red Tees team competitions.
Handicaps are not required before you join as you can play for your handicap in our weekly competitions. Three (3) such card entries are required.
We ease ourselves into the summer season with a mixture of individual strokeplay and stableford competitions, along with some team events, before competing for the first of our “Majors”, the TCL Decanter, at the end of April. More “Majors” follow and there is at least one qualifying medal round for handicap every month. There are 12 qualifying competitions over the course of the season - 6 each played on stableford and strokeplay formats. The top 15 players in each qualifying competition gain merit points towards the season's Order of Merit Championship.
We also run a Seniors Matchplay Championship for the Neil Panton Trophy. Entry via the Club V1 Members Hub App or Webpage with a closing date of around mid-April.
Our eclectic mix of team competitions allows us to enter with friends or in drawn teams to play with other members of the Seniors Section. An excellent way of meeting other members of the Section. A highlight of the season is sending teams to Boat of Garten to play in their 4 Man Team Senior Open.
We currently play 4 Inter-Club social matches (2 home and 2 away) and we have an annual Seniors Outing to play another course.
In the winter season, we continue our golf with a Winter Championship Trophy competition. This is played for on a Monday and Thursday (10.00 start) each week and entries close the previous evening to allow members to check the latest weather report before submitting their entries by email. The weather and a frost-bound course can throw up some real challenges, but that does not stop a very enthusiastic bunch of hardy golfers from enjoying their golf throughout the winter period.
